gy2020, I didn't know him personally, but the manager of the Cinema made some sort of deal with him to provide our flashlights. Whenever our flashlight supply went kaput, the Cinema manager would call the Texas Store, and send me down there. They would be bagged and waiting for me when I got there!

Art was a big guy. His son and grandson are around 6' 4 or 5. I imagine Art was about the same heigth. Good Catholic Poles and loved his St. Louis Cardinals

In general, it is now a storage area for all the kiosk carts and a few other stores as well as the break room for the janitorial staff. They also store all the Northstar mall stuff, such as holiday decorations. There is still a running track down there and a few blocked off areas that seem to be untouched for decades.

Now I wonder how do they get down there?

I thought I remember that there were 3 theaters there. And yes, I can remember at least one of them being very small.

I dont know all the access paths but the grey mall service doors across from the Starbucks lead down a hallway to the service elevator that takes you down there.

Toy Box. I also remembered Mr. Dunderbach's (sp.) Bavarian Delicatessen. I also think there was a Texaco gas station at the underground parking lot by Joske's. Great memories.

That Texaco station was Upshaw's Texaco. My tenure at North Star Mall 1968-71 saw Full Service Fire Chief gas run 31.9, and Sky Chief was 35.9, unless there was a gas war.

Those definitely were the days!

I usually bought my gas at Sears Central Park, because they were always having a gas war with the Phillips 66 across Rector, and the Martin station on the corner of Rector and San Pedro. I bought gas at Sears MANY times for 18.9

I moved here in 1971 across the street from the mall and as a 15 yr. old would visit the mall about every other day with friends. Most memories are eating at the Walgreen's that had a lunch counter like the old days and would get a milkshake. Also would go to Mr. Dunderbak's which was a deli sandwich place that had wonderful food and foods from all over the world and it was located near the center of the mall and had wood picnic tables out front. Went to the movies there also and saw Urban Cowboy for the first time, the mall seemed so small in those days not like it is now. I remember a record shop there somewhere I think Hastings ? and would buy the new Creedence Clearwater Revival albums.
