I am interested in getting a different car, and would like to know what dealerships are hassle free and let you test drive cars. Please give me some personal experiences. I want to go, test drive, and then leave with no hassle whatsoever.

Let me know what dealerships are easy to deal with and maybe who to ask for.

There are no dealerships that are hassle free although I think CarMax is less hassle.

I was just at First Texas Honda in Austin and they are a one-price joint if that is what you mean by hassle-free.

It sounds like what you are looking for is a hassle-free test drive, not necessarily a "non-negotiable price" dealership.

I've never encoutered any resistance at any local new-car dealership when it comes to allowing me to test drive a vehicle I express interest in. I don't remember ever having to ask, they just offered.

In fact, in one case, the dealership (it was Northside Ford) offered to let me take the vehicle home & keep it overnight, after having taken it for a brief test drive. I didn't take them up on their offer, and ended up not buying the vehicle. This was several years ago when the dealership was still located on San Pedro next to Benson.

They are paying $50 for a test drive. Yes, $50 for you to test drive.

i'm not saying that gunn is the best or that they have the lowest price, but years ago when I was shopping for my 350z, the salesman took me to an abandoned parking lot...got out....and said "have fun". a few minutes after tearing up the lot we drove back and i signed the papers.

now compare that to the subaru dealership in town...I drove a wrx and wanted to see what it could do (hello, it's a sports car. i'm not going to be driving it like a grandma). but anytime i got on the throttle the salesman told me "hey, slow down there". so I drove it back, gave him the keys and told him to not bother calling me because he just lost the sale.

also, if they hassle you...you have the option to just walk away. you don't owe them a thing.

Most car dealerships make the process far too tough. I too have had good experiences with Gunn (Infiniti). Their 'one simple price' was take it or leave it and the test drive was metered, but fine for what I wanted.

Paying to test drive? That's ridiculous. If I'm eventually going to pony up $20k+ for a vehicle, I damn well deserve free time in the driver's seat before signing those papers.

BN, no, the dealers are paying YOU to test drive their cars. Only the following pay:

Participating Dealers

Seems like none in Texas, nevermind.
