Hi to All!
I am new to CTF and new to Texas as well..
Im hoping one of you might be familiar with a popular store in Oregon, Grocery Outlet.. It's one of the few things I've been missing since I moved here in July. as an OR native its insane for me to say this...but I kinda miss the rain too :0
I am a big huge fan of discount and thrift stores. So any help with cool, clean, and somewhat organized stores that sell household, clothing, or groceries would be fantastic and appreciated.
Grocery Outlet sells damaged boxes and cannned foods, overstocks, and merchandise that has had been returned etc...they have household, cosmetics, clothing AND groceries.
Anything similiar around San Antonio or Austin? Im in Seguin...
Thanks Again

Neareast thing I can think of in San Antonio that would be something like you used to have would be Big Lots. They sell household goods & some grocery items. Some of the stores also have furniture. Many of the electronics and small appliances they sell are labeled "reconditioned".

I don't know about San Antonio, as I've only been here for 20 years, but there used to be railroad salvage stores in North Texas. They sold everything from bread to furniture.

Living in Chicago growing up, I still miss ALDI. They rocked.

I'm from CA and familiar with Grocery Outlet. No, there is nothing here that is comparable.

As someone else said, Big Lots is about as close as you can get here.

Ditto on ALDI. I have said it many times but I will say it again....I feel they would be great as downtown grocery stores.

I just checked out ALDI yesterday in my new city. It's pretty cheap, for sure. $1.99 for a gallon of milk, 99cents for a dozen eggs. There are just no name brands, except for some seasonal-type things, Pumpkin Pie Pop Tarts (gag) and some Halloween candy (M&M's and such) but other than that, it was all no-name brand stuff. I'm not averse to trying it, and it's the closest grocery store to my new home, so I'm sure I'll be in there.......and it was not a very big store at all. About the size of the Trader Joe's I've been in, but not nearly as bustling. Busy, yes, but the TJ's I have been in has a particular vibe that this ALDI lacked. Meat and produce sections are not very large but look sufficient for a quick stop.

It would go over extremely well here, in my opinion.

Yeah... dreaming of Aldi...
Other than Big Lots, you can try Dollar Stores - they sell food too. For bread: get day old for half price - Mrs. Braid bakery outlet

There is salvage store:
AAA Freight Salvage Sales
(210) 533-8611
1111 S Presa St, San Antonio, TX 78210
anyone been there?

There's the .99 Stores. You have to know what's a good deal, though. I can get organic beans in a can for .99 which is great, but regular green beans for .99 is not so great. But you can find hard to find things like Andersen's Split Pea Soup (from CA!). They do sell bread for .99 though, if you are there on deliversy day you can get whole wheat and the Sara Lee blueberry buckle bread, etc. That's a steal.

About 5 years ago, there was a discount grocery store in a strip center on Fredericksburg Rd., about a mile inside 410. It only lasted a year or two before it closed. I don't remember the name of it. It reminded me of Aldi, but it was a bigger store and AFAIK, it was not part of a chain. Maybe the failure of that store was proof that SA doesn't support the concept?
