Hi all, I am soon going to go into the DPS to try and get my drivers license. The only problem is, my eyes. I have myopia, hyperopia, amblyopia, and strabismus, at age 3 I had 20/200 in the left eye, but after 8 years of patching I got to 20/60 in the left eye, with less of everything. Now at 15 (With no patching since about 11), I don't wear glasses anymore, except for reading, and my left eye is at 20/30, right eye is 20/20 (I forget what my total vision is) With considerably less of all of the opia's.

When I went in to go get my permit, I couldn't pass the vision test on the machine they use, because it is biased against people with my kind of eyes. And then even with a note from my opthamologist saying I didn't need glasses to drive, they still put the restriction of having to wear glasses on my permit. Fast forward to now, I turn 16 in 16 days, I went to see my opthamologist last month and there literally are no glasses that he can prescribe to me, to make me see farther. But he did write a new note, strongly stating that I don't need to wear glasses while driving and explaining why.

So, finally getting to my question, in case I can not pass the machine that is biased against my eyes, and they don't believe the note, is there a law that states I am legally able to demand an eye chart? And if so, where? Anything would be helpful, thanks .

Your optometrist has to fill out a form DL-63.

My opthamologist did fill out the DL-63 form last time (I would have said that in the first post but I didn't know it had a name) and they still put the glasses restriction on my permit. This time he filled it out differently, so fingers crossed that they'll be smart and let me drive without glasses.

Most people out there on the roads don't pay attention to the signs, no matter how clear they are..
