Why not, we talk about every other chain out there...

Is Japan's Uniqlo the Next Great American Retailer?

I bet we'll see one before Trader Joe's, In-N-Out Burger or Disney!

Cheers! M2

Funny that you should make that comparison, as it is being reported that Gap is planning to close 21% of its stores in North America over the next two years while tripling its outlets in China due to the poor US economy...makes you wonder why Uniglo would want to set up here?!?

I was hoping you mispelled and meant to type "UNOS". Now that is a restaurant I'll support 100%!

I'll take that bet and raise ya 20! My guess is that we WILL see In n' Out in the near(ish) future (I'd guess within 3 years). Trader Joes I'm not so sure of, but maybe. Disney? Oh yeah!!! That'll be here tomorrow!

I'll see a Trader Joe's in a couple of weeks, but only because I'll be on the road (again).

But I'll take that bet, Jules!

Cheers! M2

I've been shopping at the Soho location for several years. It is the only place I buy denim. I can't imagine they will be in SA anytime in the next few years. I can name 20 cities minimum that would be up first. We can't even get a H&M and they have been expanding in the US for 8-10 years.

Keep dreaming imo.

I don't know about Uniqlo (didn't seem very unique in the linked video) but retail seems to do pretty well in San Antonio. I don't know if it's the Mexican influence (all the Mexican nationals driving to SA and San Marcos and spending hundreds or thousands of dollars every year) or just the sheer number of people in SA. Look at the link below
Employment growth expected to bolster San Antonio?s retail market - San Antonio Business Journal

It ranks San Antonio #14 in the country for retail.

So, perhaps it would be a good location for a Uniqlo after all...

I didn't say SA is a poor retail market, but it is near the bottom of the list for certain segments of the industry.
