Default Green San Antonio

Does anybody know what San Antonio is doing or projects in the works to try to be more environmentally friendly?

Yea this is what they are doing: tearing up huge parcels of land in the outer city limits, making cookie cutter homes, then placing a nice little grass strip the size of a stamp in the middle of it all.

joking, but should be doing more..imho.

Wal-Mart is doing a lot to conserve energy. When you consider how many Wal-Mart stores there are in the U.S. (over 2,100), the changes have a huge impact.

For example, most new Wal-Mart stores have daylight harvesting systems: natural sunlight comes in through skylights and the interior lights adjust through dimmers. That alone saves enough energy to supply over 50,000 homes each year.

The refridgerator lighting is motion-detected, so the lights remain off until a shopper passes by. The central office in Arkansas monitors them, so if someone leaves a refridgerator door open, the store manager gets a phone call.

Wal-Mart has also committed $35 million to conserve at least one acre of priority habitat wildlife for every acre developed by the company.

I don't get why they wont' do a rain barrel program. That would've been great this year with all the rain. Lots of other cities get to do it
