I stay in the center lane going the speed limit.

If your slower then the SL get in the right lane.

If your faster then the SL get in the Left lane.

This would seem common sense but common sense is not so common.

I do have one thing against turn signals.. they don't give you the right to change lanes even if someone else is already occupying that lane.. I've never seen it before I got here, but for some reason people think a turn signal gives them auto inheritence to whatever lane they want. the really stupid part is they flip you off when you honk at them to let them know they can't share the exact same spot on the road.. that's when I get really evil behind the wheel. I can't for the life of me understand that stupid logic, so maybe someone can help me again...

and the center lane is the perfect lane for most people. I hang out there unless I'm getting on the highway, getting off the highway, or passing someone. It's common sense and courteous driving.

Blue_Iris_3 is on a distinguished road
Oh, I have to say that I have driven in (lived in) most cities mentioned here and I find alot of what has been said here to be quite true.

Michigan, I have never driven so fast in traffic anywhere else. The drive from Flint to Detroit is a 90 mph on average all the way! And if you don't (or hit your brakes when the police pass) they will pull you over For Real (They think if you are not going with everyone else you must have something to hide). This all gets a little hairy south of Detroit when road condition detiorates. And yes at the Ohio border, nothing but brake lights, not particular reason other than you are not in Michigan anymore.

Miami, the worst in all. To much traffic, they pass on the shoulder as a rule, off and on the highway just to get ahead (no feeder roads to stay on), only really backs things up more, ugh, never go back, or avoid.

Houston, bad diffinitly worse then San Antonio. I always find myself being pushed into another lane, they just move over whether there is room or not, and they can't decide on a general speed. Some go to slow some too fast and frequently the same car will switch between the two.

My biggest problem in San Antonio is the lack of the merge lane on I-10. There is almost not on ramp and as soon as you hit the highway you have to be on (or hit the cement barrier, and theres no shoulder), so what was fun in getting on is sometimes even funner when other people get on. You have to move to the left lane or get smushed, so sometimes you are going to **** the real speeders off or take your chances with the "merge challendged" group. At least the speeders are on their game! And no I am not one of those slow pokes in the left lane, after all remember where I was trained to drive the Michigan speedway I-75 from Saginaw to Monroe daily.

Oh, Denver was the best. mostly new infastructer (since 1980 I think), well laid out and ment to move traffic. Although TRex is a never ending construction zone, at least they have the light rail that will aliviate traffic on I-25 soon

Default Drive Right - Pass Left

Here is a state-by-state brief summary of the drive right, pass left laws. Most states follow the Uniform Vehicle Code and require drivers to keep right if they are going slower than the normal speed of traffic (regardless of the speed limit). Texas follows this method. I wonder...why have a "speed limit" if the "normal" speed of traffic is higher? I guess it's so the slower right lane traffic have some kind of speed guidance. Myself - I prefer to stay in the right land and go the speed limit, or just over it.

It is called big city driving... you do realize there are 2 million people in the metro, 20 million visiting (yr.), and countless others passing through on major interstates. If we weren't going at least the speed limit we wouldn't get anywhere. People would be on the roads longer and traffic would be worse.

Right lane is not for driving under the speed limit, it is for driving the speed limit. If you have to drive slower use the frontage road. If there is no frontage road find an alternate route, because you are being a hazard to other drivers.

I will grant amnesty to out-of-towners (tourists, etc.)

Cilantro is on a distinguished road
My biggest peeve is people who have every opportunity to see the Transguide or other sign telling them there is a lane closure ahead, but they still drive all the way up to the obstruction and force their way into my lane. Of course, then my lane gets more and more backed up as more and more of these *******s butt their way in instead of waiting like the rest of us. I usually refuse to let them in unless I am feeling very laid-back that day, which doesn't usually happen.

Thank you for backing up everything I said about Michigan and the drivers there. I forgot about the police and that's also a great point. It's the only state where you DO NOT slow down when you see a cop, that's how you get pulled over there and I think it's a brilliant idea. In Michigan it's ok to go 100 MPH as long as everyone else is and you can do that right in front of the police (I've been there and done that) but if you're going 101 and weaving in and out of traffic or going 95 and causing everyone to go around you, you're going to get a ticket. I'd forgotten how much I love that VERY logical way of managing traffic..

Here people slow down for police no matter where they're located.. I guess this may be breaking news to some, but a cop that has someone pulled over on 35 N can't do anything to you while you're going south on 35... or if you're on 410 and a cop is at a light on the access road, he can't get you for anything... worst part is they're usually going under the speed limit anyhow and they just slow down even further... dorks

the green light thing is a great point also. I've never seen that anywhere, but I see it here all the time. Some people will literally almost stop when they come to a green light and I just can't understand it. I wish more people would blast their horns at these people and maybe they'll finally get the hint.

I think I need to stay out of this thread. It makes my blood boil a little when I think of all the dumb people on the road..
