Howdy,

Just curious about breeds that will not totally destroy my allergies. Also where to find them at locally at a reasonable price. I have already tried the shelter and it did not appeal to me. It did not appeal to me b/c I wanted to take them all home, minus the cats. Any ideas are appreciated.

P.S.- Small dogs....ehhh not really.

Interesting breeds. So if one were to look around SA would they start in the classifieds in the paper? What are folks thoughts on Beagles? Other than they yelp I know they are smaller, but just need a good dog for the house.

Once you know what kind of dog you want, you could look on craigslist if you want a free or cheap dog.

If you want a purebred puppy, the classified in the paper are probably where to look.

The shelters are actually not a bad idea, if you could get over feeling guilty about only being able to bring home one dog. Since the shelter dogs are already neutered and have their shots, that's a money-saver that helps offset the adoption fee.

I had a chiweenie and she didn't bother my allergies at all. She did bother my husband...he just wasn't interested in a high-strung, drama-queen dog, so we found her another home. We also had a pomeranian-chihuahua mix and he did bother my allergies quite a bit. Right now I've got a lab/catahoula pup and I haven't had any allergy trouble since the day we brought her home (she was really dirty when we got her).

I know someone who is blind and his wife has severe asthma and allergies. He has a standard poodle for a seeing-eye dog. Poodles don't bother her respiratory ailments.

You, technically, can have any breed as long as you maintain strict hygeine routines for the dogs as well as your home. Bigger dogs tend to be worse for allergies, the bigger the dog, the bigger the surfaces area for fur and dander. Having an purifer and all that stuff helps. I have bad allergies to both cats and dogs but I keep my dogs, an American Staffordshire terrior and Lab/Collie mix, groomed and throughtout the years of having them, very few dogs bother me now.

I second the word for shelter dogs as well. They'll be current on their shots, have their personality known, and you know what you're getting in a way. Beagles are great dogs, in my experience, if you have a yard and don't mind a digger. A friend has 3 and they're very active, love to run around and have the hunting tendency to dig. They don't bother my allergies at all but she's very good about her hygeine.

Weimaraners are great and tend to be very easy to keep clean (though need tons of attention and excercise)

you need to find breeds of dogs that dont have fur but hair - my sister in law has the same problem - they purchased a bearded collie - i dont really understand the name since the dog looked like a sheep dog to me and nothing like a collie - the other breed i know are poodles - other than that you will have to look that information up im sure there are more breeds than that
