They make bike racks or carriers for just about any modern car, particularly small ones.

The one I had on my subaru even had a lock so no one could steal it.

It was easier using the rack than trying to cram it inside the subaru.

Well they do make them for jeeps (wasn't referring to your rental). I don't bike anymore but when I did, majority of the people I knew that I biked with had some kind of rack or carrier that goes on the trunk. Some trunk carriers are universal across many cars.

Just saying there are options to make it easier but it is your choice, not mine or anyone else's.

You know...I thought that getting a bike rack would be a necesity when training for a triathlon earlier in the year, but after starting to train with my group I noticed only about 5 people of the 30 had bike racks, the rest were a lot like me, craming it in the car or SUV. They're so expensive!

Well I can't blame anyone for wanting to save money by not getting one. Personally I don't consider the $150 I spent on mine expensive, especially considering it keep me from having to cram it in the car and I could use the inside space for my bag, shoes, helmet, etc.

Funny thing is that I sold it for half that amount on craigslist to another Subaru driver when I sold the car.

Does anyone know Deep Forest in real life? I haven't seen him on here in a while. Was just wondering if he's OK or just staying away from here?
