Yes, and it's also just a matter of time before people (customers and employees) get used to the concept. I first heard about self service checkout lanes about 10 years before I actually used one or had the desire to use one.

OH my gosh there are ATMs, self-service fuel pumps, automatic postal machines, self-checkouts at grocery stores, etc etc etc. Not sure why you peeps are surprised.

In Nevada this is the only kind we had. I definitely prefer it over the 'squawk box' method here. I still cannot understand most of what they're saying.

i wish i lived back in the day when they had full-service gas stations. that'd be cool to see again..

IIRC, until the early 1970s, full-service was about all we had here. Checking fluid levels and tire pressure was part of the attendant's routine while your tank was filling. Then some of the larger service stations started adding "self-serve islands" (with discounted pricing), to supplement their full-service and service bays.

Over the years, more stations got into the self-service business, eventually phasing out their full-service & service bays in most cases, and convenience stores got into the self-serve motor fuel business, too. Now full-service is almost (but not completely) extinct here.

Now with "pay at the pump", I rarely interact with anyone when I re-fuel my vehicle.
