OK, please no smart ass comments.
Yes, my hamster cost 7.00 at the flea market.
Yes, he's almost two years old.

He's really sick, and looks bad. He's been hanging on for over a month now. He cries sometimes, and I'm sure he's in pain.

Does anyone know where I can take him to be humanely put down? Google says people in my position have put their hamsters down for 15 or 20 bucks. Petsmart will do it for 60. My bf told me to just throw him outside and let nature take it's course, i.e. cat. No.

Technically I can just wait for him to die, but I know he's hurting.
Any recomendations? FWIW I'm on the nw side.

$20.00 at Potranco Road Vet. I'm not sure of the exact name, but it's located next to the Burger King and across from the HEB plus.

Local animal shelter probably would do it for cheap if not free. Since it is so small, they would just gas it until it fell asleep and then died. Please call and ask.

I think it's very admirable that you would care for your pet, no matter how small, to not allow it to suffer. I hope good karma comes your way, you deserve it!

We had to have my daughter's pet rats put down a few years ago (yes...I said pet rats...best darn pets we've had to be honest)...all three were roughly the same age and we took them to Potranco Road Vet and had all three put down for about $50 (this was about 5 years ago).

And ditto what burgrat said...

Agreed. This actually brought tears to my eyes, as my daughter's gerbils passed recently and she really LOVED those little guys. All the best to you.

I won't have to take him anywhere anymore, he just died. I feel kind of foolish for being an adult so attached to a hamster but oh well.

Thanks for the suggestions. One of my friends mentioned the Blue Cross Clinic on St. Cloud. She took her sick dog there, and after failed treatments, the vet put her dog to sleep for 20.00, and it was more of a disposal fee to keep it. That's where I was going to take him. She said the vet there was really nice, and it's affordable. She takes her other dogs there too.

we have 4 ratties in our household:

black and white rat (black hooded with stripe down his spine)
black rat (all black sans a white belly)
Stevie(albino red eyed rat, does what we call the stevie wonder in that his head goes side to side when he stops and looks at you)
blue rat (a blue rat with white boots)

GREAT pets, super affectionate. their food aggression is unsettling at times (you have to give them all treats at the same time or they will fight over it), but their personalities, affectionate nature and overall personality more than make up for it.

crappy part is they live 3 years, which is just when you start to get really attached to them.

back on topic:

dr becker (dont care what you think of him, hes good to my cats) will put down small animals for 35$.

Don't feel foolish. I cry when my pets die, no matter how small they are. I even cry about my fish.
