Has anyone ever done this? We have 2 Airmen coming for Thanksgiving this year. First time doing this but it seems like an awesome idea. We have a son over seas in the military and will not be with him this holiday season.

We did a few years back. We'd like to do it again soon. It was a cool experience and they were pretty great young men. After dinner, we asked them what they wanted to do, and they just said play Playstation. Thought it was weird at first, but then realized they're still kids, and it really gave them a chance to pretend they were back at home without a care in the world. They played for hours and had a great time.

Totally! We did this in Chicago a few years ago at my Aunt & Uncle's house (both ret. USAF). All they wanted to do was watch football, and we were thrilled to let them do it!

Both sons are hosting military this year - 4 AF, 4 USA - so we'll have 8 young men to share the holiday with - should be a GREAT time!

Thanks for sharing your experiences all. My son graduated from Navy Boot Camp 2 years ago and all he wanted to do was eat, sleep and relax. Food, football and video games are going to be popular I'm sure.

Yep. They don't have cars with them and the military can't transport all the airmen. It's part of the gig, but it's worth it. You'll have some good conversations with them in the car.

It's totally worth the drive. My parents do this every couple of years and they love it. Last year they had two airmen, both female. One was a kid, essentially, and the other was older, right at the age cutoff for active duty. My mom said my father and she enjoyed having them over and learning about their lives and where they come from. She stills keeps in touch and sends care packages with one of them who's stationed in Italy.

I think it's a great opportunity - both to say "thanks", and to extend the true meaning of "Thanksgiving" with others. We don't "owe" these kids anything per se - so it really is an absolute extension of the best of the human existence, to share with others willingly.
