I'm trying to decide which home security company to go with. So far I've gotten quotes from ADT and Hawk Security (a division of Interface). Hawk gave me the best price, but I've never heard of them. I know ADT is big and national, but I think Hawk is fairly local. Does anyone have experience with this company? Do you recommend them? Is there another company you recommend. Price is an issue and it seems to me that the local companies are less expensive.

I've had Brinks since 2002 and the only issue I ever had was the backup battery died and I had to replace it myself.. it cost something like $8, so it wasn't a really big deal. I've set the alarm off plenty of times with stupid mistakes and they always call right away. I've also screwed up a couple times and the sheriff deputy was out here quickly too.
The install of the equipment was very impressive too. I didn't have anything wired when I had the house built, so they had to do it themselves and everything looks great, there's no damage and everything works perfect.

Default I second that

I too am a Brinks customer and am very impressed. I have only been a Brinks customer for about 5 months but have already had an accidental set off and they called with in seconds. Very impressed and I pay around $35/month

I recommend that you check with YOUR home insurance company and see if they have an "association" with a provider...USAA does and you get a discounted rate and special pricing on installation...so others might as well.

Doesn't hurt to ask, right???

I know for a fact that Allstate will accept Brinks for a discount as I have both of them
definitely don't forget to mention it to your insurance though. there should be a certificate or something like that on the companies web site that is all the proof the insurance company needs, or at least that's true for Allstate and Brinks..

Also, for the person that has had them for a few months, when your contract is up negotiate a lower price and/or additional equipment. I got keychain remotes and now only pay $25/month..

ADT is $23.99/month with USAA membership. And discounted installation or they will match any other price.

Question break-ins...security

hello world, 1st time user doing research here! My girlfirends home was broken into and now (I know...) we're looking into home security systems to make her feel somewhat safe again. Does anyone know whee i can find a "spreadsheet" of sorts with install/equipment/monitoring cost of local security companies?
thanks, this is great!

can't help you there, but four dogs also helps a lot, especially when the bark from one of them shakes the floor

best bet is to do research on all the companies and read things like this. I've personally never heard of one particular company being really bad.

We bought a Medallion Home and it came with a Law security system. They are a local company, family owned I think. The system is great and they have great service too. We have USAA but our bill with Law is cheaper than if we went with the USAA discounted ADT. We pay $21.01 per month for Law. You can pay using auto draft too if that makes any difference to you.

I don't think that there would be anywhere to see what the equipment stuff would cost...I think that it is house specific...my house has 25 windows, my sisters has 10. Most everyone has at least 2 doors, but the windows/upstairs/attached garage differences would factor in.

My recommendation would be to call about 4 of them, set them up to come by and tell you what they have to offer and what it would cost, and let them KNOW that you have the others coming by so you can get the specific info for what YOU want to buy...and they will do their best to ensure you go with them.

I think it could be done in one afternoon, and that they would understand that you are REALLY interested, but doing your homework to get the best deal/equipment. Let them know you are not interested in what works for others, you want what works best for YOU!!!

Good luck!!!
