I need to get my texas drivers license here in san antonio. I also know that there`s 4 locations to choose from in bexar county.. That said, I wanted to ask if they all use the same format for the eye test? I say this because I had a couple people tell me that each location is different. I heard that one makes you read the lines from a screen and another asks you what color(s) is on the screen. Is there any truth to this?

Are you sure you can't just renew on the internet w/o an eye test?

I've never seen a color perception test at any location - just the vision test.

I've been to different locations and the eye test was the same at all of them. The one on the south side is the least crowded, usually.

The eye test is no big deal, if you can see well enough to read signs at the store and watch your TV, you can pass it.

I've been to Boerne to get a license. Sometimes it's faster even considering the drive.

Went to the one on General McMullen last year to get my MC endorsement and they just had me read a line. I kinda had to cheat, though, because I forgot just how blind I am...

Same here, and since color vision deficiencies exist in 5-8% of men in the world (depending on which study you believe, but that's as high as one out of every twelve), I don't see how it would be even testable.

(True color-blindness, known as monochromasy, is extremely rare. And oddly enough, only 0.5% of the women, or one out of every two hundred, experience color vision deficiencies. ).

It's a simple eye test to ensure that a person has, without corrective lenses, 20/40 or better each eye and both together per Title 37, Part 1, Ch 15, Subchapter C, Rule §15.51 of the Texas Administrative Code. That link will also show the vision requirements for corrective lenses.

Cheers! M2

Don't know the laws, but did my licensing within the past month at the Gen McMullen DPS site and do recall a red/green type of test in addition to reading the line.

I only found color vision requirements for getting a Commercial Drivers License (under 49 C.F.R., Part 391.41(b)(10)), if someone has a reference for the same for a regular drivers license, please post it up!

Massachusetts has such a requirement, but nowhere could I find one listed for the state of Texas.

I was at the Pat Booker location twice in 3mos last summer and it was empty both times. Also I didnt have to do anything with colors as far as the eye test went.
