Default Church recommendations for 78249/ 1604 & Bandera area

My family and I looking for a Church in the Bandera and 1604 /78249 area. Size does not matter, but I do appreciate feedback from city-data on the service & experience. I was raised a Roman Catholic when I was young, but I am open to any type of Christian Church, but I would prefer an informal Christian Church. Any information on location hours, and Sunday school classes for kids would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Hi,
you gotta have at least some idea of what you want: loud music, no music, you really need to know what doctrine is taught. Some have great things for kids but the rest is lousy. I meet at a house church near by. We dont really have a daycare thing there. It is just a few families that get together to grow in Christ.
I know there is the BRCC right by braundera. not too far from you, whenever i go by there it is crowded.
If you are looking to just go somewhere every sunday then pretty much any church will do. But if you are looking for a faith building church be aware of where you go.

I have attended BRCC and like it, it is more modern with casual dress and live christian rock music, a cafe where you can purchase pastries and coffee/lattes/cappacino (sp) while watching the service via big screen video from the auditorium, and separate classes/buildings for different age children. The grounds are nice also, lots of young families as well as boomers. Saturday has a 5pm service, 3 services on Sunday, last one at 1pm.

I also have found Holy Spirit Episcopal church, currently holding services at Pedrotti's while the new Sacred Space is being built on Bandera south of Target. I like the more traditional service there, they have a live choir and live musical instruments, has a teen youth group, children's Sunday school service, and a more dress up for church congregation. There are always good eats and drinks after the service, with time to socialize. Sunday service at 10am.

Both are New Testament churches. I recommend them both.

I have recently started attending BRCC and I must say that I LOVE it! What Michigan said is pretty spot on and I depending on if you like a more rock/contemporary service, you may find BRCC to be for you.

No, not at all! They also have an active downtown campus, they are available to the homeless and the shelter residents there. BRCC used to stand for Bandera Road Community Church, they have changed it to stand for Bandera Road City Church. The "hip" pastors rotate, and they have all gone to other countries and helped in emergencies and as ministers to the people there, making it possible for getting fresh water, IOW, they "walk the walk". A collection plate is never passed, donations are given via drop boxes in the auditorium lobby or at special event tables on the grounds. They often have bounce houses for the kids to play in after service, this ministry really cares about the poor and helping others, often have a guest speaker or a missionary who has returned from out of the country speak a bit. I am very impressed. What I really like about this modern way of worship and getting God's name and word out there is the way it is run, it is "modern" enough to draw in young people, younger generations, which is really what all churches should be doing to bring young people to God. Young people aren't drawn to the old, stuffy, bald and blue-haired generation churches. I myself stopped attending a church I really liked because it was too "old" for me, and I'm in my 50's. Please check it out for yourself.

This church is VERY liberal and I feel they try too hard to be "hip". Personally, that's not why I go to church. We went on Christmas Eve, since that's where our grown children chose, and they DID pass the plate. This makes about the sixth time we've tried it. Music is just too loud; I love the modern songs, but don't need it blasted at me. Too casual and try TOO hard to make everyone accepted; don't care for a pastor preaching in faded, ragged blue jeans, shirt untucked. It just screams, "I'm in a mid-life crisis, tring to stay hip". Also, my co-worker told me when he had a need for a pastor two years ago (daughter was in bad car wreck), they couldn't even find one available to just be there and pray with them. I think it's all about money.

BRCC sounds like it meets your needs...I am Catholic and Catholic Churches are everywhere, but several family members and friends go there and love it.
