AND, if they can increase the rents on Luby's, and risk their departure, the mall must feel the same.
I thought the same thing. I never noticed that the Security service was there, because there are so many others that I can go to. It must be an expensive proposition for a cafeteria to survive due to the amount of real estate required. Lubys has also gotten much more expensive while cutting service (or at least FREE service) at the same time. Just look at the cafeteria crowd. They are usually almost always an older crowd. Older crowds normally eat less. It's a losing proposition for a cafeteria to be in a mall, imo.

The Luby's management and staff at the North Star location were told that the company would shutter the restaurant. Employees were told the location would close because the lease expired and the cost to renew was expected to double. One other Luby's location, in Houston, also is set to close
General Growth Properties Inc., a Chicago-based real estate investment trust, owns the mall. They emerged from the largest real estate bankruptcy in U.S. history. There were no signs posted anywhere inside the restaurant to inform people about the news, leaving many patrons unaware of the closing.

I guess they are trying to make profit at any price. Premier malls charge $500-$750 per sqft.

Heck no. I'd much rather go to Ingram park mall where there is air conditioning than walk around in San Antonio summer heat at the rim.

At least it's a cool dump. Have fun slumming it with the rest of the sweaty hipsters.

I work close by and the mall is normally dead during the week, during christmas it was busy but not northstar busy. I would be surprised if it lasts a few more years.
