I'm going stir crazy!

I moved here from Northern NY about 7 months back, and have been spending all my time just working my butt off and getting things to a good start down here. Now that I've got that out of the way, I find myself vegging out at home far too often after I get out of work...I need to get out and meet people - the only friends I've made are at work, and they're all either 20 years my senior or they're tied down by family.

Where can a late-20s single guy with no kids go around here to make friends and hang out with similar company? Not into clubbing, but lounges are nice, as are just straight-up bars...anything along those lines or maybe even something non-booze related? Drinking buddies are nice but they usually only go as far as the exit.

But I digress. What are some cool spots?

Where did you hang out in NY?

I feel your pain although I am a little older than you.

As the only person in my office with no kids or spouse, I rarely hang out with any of them outside of working hours.

I don't know if you are the geek/nerd type, but once in awhile I will go to Dragon's Lair to play games. The crowd there is sometimes a bit younger than I prefer to socialize with but it is still fun.

If you like video games, Dave & Busters is fun.

Try meetup.com for more options based on your interests.

Honestly, that's irrelevant. Small town, 1 mall, 1 bowling alley, 12 bars. That was it. I'm almost certain there's more than that here in SA.

Honestly, that wasn't clear in your original post. It really doesn't seem irrelevant. I guess you shopped and bowled a lot? SA has tons of malls and several bowling alleys. Have fun!

Otherwise, go grab a copy of the SA Current.

Phew, you Texans are a bunch of firecrackers! It's irrelevant where I hung out in NY because I'm not in NY - my point is I'm looking for MORE than malls and bowling alleys, like just some general places where people gather in a social atmosphere. But thanks for your kind southern hospitality. Appreciate ya.

I would agree being active definitely gets you closer to meeting groups... mountain biking is big. I'm not into the club scene either and it is difficult to find great hang out spots... what part of town are you in? That will help narrow it down...

She was just trying to help. Use the search function, almost every other day people post here asking what to do in SA. Most are thankful for the responses.

Join a gym.

Good luck.
