Howdy everyone ~

Brand new to the forum here - hoping to get some advice. I was born and raised in Dallas but have been living in Maryland since 2006. I'm ready to get back to Texas and want to move to San Antonio. . . but, I'm not sure exactly where to start looking. I'm hoping to move sometime in the late spring/early summer. I was hoping ya'll might be able to provide some insight into which areas I should look - I'm a musician and a vet tech, looking for the safest areas of SA with good nightlife so I have options to perform my music. Money is also a factor so areas that are cheaper, would be nice.

Any advice/insight ya'll can give would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks much,
Sara

There's missing information. What kind of budget? 450 or 750 for an apartment makes a big differance. What kind of music? Bands or symphony? SA is a big place with lots of diversity. You going to have a car? Just need some clarification.
Off the bat I'd say close if not in downtown would be the area you proably need.

Ahh, my bad. I reckon those rather are important details, aren't they?

My budget is $400-600/month for rent, as many utilities included as possible. I will have my own car.

I'm a solo country/folk singer. . . just me and my guitar.

Thanks!

Southtown would fit the bill. it is immediatly south of the downtown area. Also maybe areas north of downtown could provide apartments in your budget.

pretty sure he asked for safe

I would look at anything north of 410 close to 281 but inside 1604. many places to find work for musicians around that area

That map makes me laugh. If anyone actually used that map, they should just live in the boonies.

For what's it's worth, every aspiring musician I know has left San Antonio (to Austin, New Orleans, and elsewhere) other than the guys playing for free beer.

Thanks everyone. . .

That map made me laugh - I particularly like the little fists.

Appreciate the feedback. . . I would love Austin, just from my research it seems way out of my budget. Was hoping that San Antonio would be cheaper but still close enough to Austin.

If Austin fits my budget, that would be fantastic!

Thanks again!

San Antonio is fine, don't be frightened by the little hamburgler and punchie-zowie map. Just stay North of 410 when looking at Apartments, there are gigs around town I'm sure. Plenty of bars here, no doubt. And Austin is only a 45 minute drive away on the weekends.
