So, to keep from polluting the thread about a SA NFL team I thought I would create a thread about our impending soccer team.

In response to some doubters in the other thread I'd like to say my wife and I are actually pretty excited about the new team.
NASL is a professional soccer league. It's not considered as good as MLS is but it is a competitive league in it's own right.
They appear to have signed at least three former MLS players to the Scorpions and I know there are at least several more playing in the league on various other teams.
The lower tier leagues have also been known to produce very good players that went on to have nice careers.
It should be an enjoyable time I suspect.

Funny you should bring this up, as I was wondering just earlier today what was going on with the Scorpions. We went to the jersey unveiling last summer and since then there's been a little discussion on the stadium and that's it.

As for how enjoyable it is going to be, I for one don't need a major league team to enjoy a sport. As a matter of fact, I have a much better time going to a Missions game than I do a Spurs one; if only for the fact that I'm not a couple of hundred lighter in the wallet for the experience. Sure, they put on a good show during Spurs games, but at Wolff stadium you can get up close and personal with both the game and the players!

I know the Scorpions will never get the support that the Spurs do, but I do hope they develop a solid fan base in San Antonio and are around for a while!

Cheers! M2

I'm waaaay too excited for my own good about the Scorpions. Not totally fangirl yet but thisclose.
I grew up with more than my fair share of "futebol" or soccer love so I'm happy I can get some good top level play going on.

And I agree with majormadmax, it'll be some good fun at 1/2 the cost.

they have a HORRIBLE back end. poorly run almost as bad at the talons.
I was trying to buy season tickets, advertise and more. couldn't get a callback ever. i have since moved on, but the point is don't get your hopes up. the scorpions will die quick.

That's interesting theeddie.
Maybe it's a little bit of growing pains. They're advertising on TV now, so hopefully they've hired more people or fixed their issue.

a horrible back end? They are just in the beginnings of signing players. Kinda early to be making that declaration.
I haven't had any problems with communication from the Scorpions office. Judging from your previous post I think you are just not thrilled about anything with Gordon Hartman/Morgans Wonderland/Star/Scorpions.

I'm talking about the buildup getting sponsors etc. I tried for 2 months to get a call back. when you are trying to give a company $20k in sponsorship and they cant take the time to return an email/phone call. they are doomed to fail
