3 allergy tests show that I'm not allergic to cedar, but I've been sneezing and blowing this week more than I have for a long time. It's the mold that's getting me. All of those moldy leaves sitting around are getting stirred up by the wind.

You're not alone. I'm suffering too. I live in the hill country where I am surrounded by cedar UGH!!!
We have a guy at our place clearing out ALL the cedar trees. I think he is stirring up the pollon but hopefully next year will be better (less cedar=less pollon)

Are they non-existent or somewhat mild because it rains throughout the year?

Thanks!

IF you are not (and do not develop) an allergy to Juniper/Cedar/Mold, you should be fine.

I loved living in the Roseville, CA area, no problems except during SOME of the burn seasons there....but the cedar here is a killer most years.

Well, here for two months now, and had a bit of a problem for a bit, but now things have calmed down.

But, we will see how the seasons progress.

The worst pollinators that affect me the most in San Antonio are of course the ever-so-beloved Mountain Cedar (also the only winter pollinator in the planet), Oak, and Ragweed. Sadly, these three pollen seasons nearly overlap eachother!

Achooo!

Some Random Guy is on a distinguished road
Hello all. Thank you for your posts.

My fiancee and I are considering a move from Portland Oregon to either San Antonio or Austin. My personal health concern is about allergies - do any of you know the specific titles of the allergens most prevalent in the area? I have heard cedar mentioned alot, but do you know which specific kind? I am trying to get a local allergist to test me for as many of your problematic allergens as possible in an attempt to determine if our planning is a good idea or not.

I do know that more sunshine would be VERY welcome!

Juniperus ashei - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is the actual name of the tree we call mountain cedar.

I have a list of the 52 allergens that my allergist tests for. Rather than me typing all of them in, tell me which of these categories you're interested in and I'll type those in.

Trees, there are 13
Weeds, 9
Grasses, 10
Molds, 10
Environmentals, 10 (these are things like pets and house dust that aren't specific to our area)

On the pollen count shown on the news, they tend to mention only Mountain Cedar, Ragweed, Hackberry, Pigweed, Pecan and Grass.

Thank you (and everyone else) for your detailed response. I was tested and told the following in the past:

"If it has hair, or grows - you're allergic to it."

I was also told that the plant allergies I was most allergic to (in descending order) are: Weeds, Grasses, then Trees.

I have also been told that I have extremely sensitive sinus tissues that are very sensitive to environmental toxins.

And no, I refuse to live in a bubble.
