Hi all. We were wondering how the job market is there. my husband drives cement truck and I can do just about anything. We want to escape the mad winters here in Ely, NV. Full time RV living. (can travel) We would realy like to check out The Hill Country in Texas. It looks like heaven! This area sounds wonderful.

In the Hill Country, the only real areas with jobs are San Antonio (to the south) and the Austin area. I haven't been to SA myself, but Austin is expensive, VERY crowded and full of people from places other than Texas. People say it doesn't even feel like you're in Texas; to some people that's good, to others that's not so good.

you could try out Boerne...the beginning of the Hill Country, but close to SA.

You may also check out the Highland Lakes area of the Hill Country (Marble Falls, Kingsland). My parents live there and it's very pretty.

As for jobs, my stepdad is a dump truck driver there, but I'm not sure how the job market is in general. He works for a company called Collier: Decomposed Granite Gravel - used for landscaping, slab fill, driveway material, ranch roads, hike and bike trail, running tracts and more. Collier Materials Inc. also handles baseball infield material, granite boulders, concrete sand, masonry sand, r

Good luck!

You need to look into the Eagle Ford area. They've been hiring drivers like nobody's business because of all the development down there.

Great idea, CDL gets you hired in Midland as well. Bound to work that way in South Central Texas too since when oil is initially produced, it often is trucked to the nearest pipeline.
