I always use New Wash Auto Bath & Detailing at 1248 S. St. Mary's (@Claudia St.)

Roland, the boss man has always taken good care of my vehicles. Been a happy customer for 10 over years.

I usually walk a block over to Taco Haven and have breakfast while they work on my truck.

The only other place that comes close, if you have no objections to going a little west of downtown is
Felix carwash, located at 2203 W. Commerce. Very inexpensive and excellent work. Handwash is usually $5.00, basic detail starts at $8.00 (I am not kidding)

There's a car wash place on NW Military in Castle Hills called Water Works that I went to once. I think the cashier was on commission, because I can't ever remember getting a harder upsell at a car wash!

Thanks. Will look into them. I went ahead and tackled my car with a dust mask yesterday and did fairly well (except for the looks I was getting from people). Just because i'm wearing a dust mask doesn't mean i'm out to infect you...sheesh.

+1 The Hand. Sometimes a longish wait or annoying upsell attempt, but it's the only place I'm comfortable taking mine after trying maybe half a dozen or so. I think their basic wash is around $18 and I'll sometimes request just an exterior wash, which is maybe $14.
