My husband and I are traveling to SA from NYC next weekend to visit my brother. We have been there a couple times and always have such a wonderful time. We are going to be going to the rodeo on Saturday afternoon (can't wait!) and are also trying to think what else to do that we haven't before. Any suggestions? We are big foodies so any restaurant recommendations would be great (BBQ or steak - we've been to Rudy's before). Last time we also went to a few vineyards for wine tasting so suggestions like that are welcome too. We have four days so we want to do the most while we are there. We've done all the Riverwalk/Alamo type things but if there is something we might have missed, I'd love to hear about it!

For some down home BBQ I would try Augies right next to to the Tea Gardens at Brackenridge park....some of the best in town.

For wine, do the hill country wine trail, SO much going on this time of year!!!

I KNOW how excited I get when I get to visit NYC so can imagine your reverse interest in all the south has to offer!

Hope you have a GREAT time....the rodeo is AWESOME to experience!

For day trips, my personal favorites are Fredericksburg and Bandera. Fredricksburg is a lovely town, great German food, wineries, and the Nimitz museum will fill up a day. Bandera, known as "The Cowboy Capital of the World", is also fun and Busbee's Bar-B-Que is pretty darn good. Be sure to sign the guest register after you eat. Bandera also has some pretty cool dude ranches in their area.

There is alot in the city itself. Brackenridge Park, Botanical Gardens, Witte Museum, McNay Museum,
all the missons(bike the mission trail) or drive to each mission. Riverwalk north extension and the farmer's market at the Pearl on Saturday morning. Why leave the city, so much in town.

I love Mac and Ernie's! I try to go there whenever I am visiting my mom who lives out that way.

It's important to decide FIRST whether you prefer staying in the city versus driving in the country, before you decide what to do. I've found that that kind of decision can make or break a fun vacation.

Going to Gruene/ New Braunfels is actually not bad even if you are more a city person. Because there is so much development along I35 that you don't really feel as if you are leaving San Antonio.

Fredericksburg would be more of a rural drive. And it's quite a bit farther.

You guys have me so excited!

We are staying near/in Boerne so country vs city are both covered.

Mac and Ernie's sounds great. We love Diners, Drive Inns and Dives.

These are great suggestions!
