I am actually ok with them asking. I just say no. My biggest issue at Valero these days is that the counters look like flea markets. They have gotten so crowded with junk there is hardly any room to do business.

No, it's a regular occurrence at most Walgreen's, too, where they promote candy, gum, etc., at the front registers. I, personally, don't have an issue with it at all... all stores promote different products in some sort of way on any given day, some more vocal than others. My favorite, though, is the food samplings at Sam's... let's see, yesterday, I had Artisan-Fresh grilled chicken & four-cheese ravioli w/their pesto sauce (yum good - sold me!), and some kind of fruit compote, skipped the rest of the offerings.

As SabresFaninSA stated, all you have to do is say "no".

The Post Office pushes/asks if you need stamps and rattles off other services when I do business there."Back in the day" when I worked at a bank we had to upsell other bank services. Think of upselling as being reminded of something you forgot you needed, or that you didn't know you needed. Sometimes it really is a reminder of something I forgot I needed/wanted.

We live in a world of contradictions. Lottery tickets are pushed on the public, yet on the back it says if you have a gambling problem, call 1-800-000-0000. Same with Liquor.

I entered the wrong pin last week (another card) and had to go in. Totally fell for it paying a dollar for a Reese's egg that at HEB is 59 cents. Dangit.

I've seen it too but one place I haven't, yet, is the Tetco near my house. I go in almost everyday before work (I LOVE their "sonic" cubed ice) to were they know me on a first name basis, and I've never seen an upsell. But who knows, other ones may have them, some may not.

Valero tried to get me the other day on my way home from Corpus, went in to buy some snacks and they were offering Reese's Pieces for a buck. And I thought to myself that I hadn't had Reese's Pieces in forever. And I almost bought them. Almost.

By the time I try all the samples, I feel full and end up skipping lunch or dinner depending what time I am at Costco.

Hahaha, my brother and I would go to Sam's purposely for the samples on a Saturday for lunch.

Heaven forbid a business deciding what it wants to sale. No one is making anyone buy junk food.

Oh, that's just Sam's private-label brand name, see: Artisan Fresh and grilled chicken & four-cheese ravioli
.
