I'd be more excited if it didn't mean I'd have to exercise all my will power not to shop there all the time. I really don't need to spend more $$. But great. I hope it does well. I don't picture SA as the market for it, but will be very happy to see it succeed. It's definitely the right location. Main competition, and it's weak, IMO, is WHole Earth Provisions (only on some items, really)

I think it will be great.

Sportsman's Warehouse catered to a totally different crowd...sure they had some clothes and stuff, but when you went in there, there was always a crowd at the gun counter and the rest of the store was deserted. It was just too big for a gun shop.

I don't really have any business at an REI but I think this is great news. Partially because its a slap in the face to the people that said it would never happen

First off, SW attracted/attracts a completely different type of customer base from REI. Second, SW exited the Texas market (not just SA) when they filed for chapter 11.

You vastly under estimate the SA market. I can almost guarantee from data I've seen on the active lifestyle market in SA, that the Huebner Oak location will be one of REI's most profittable.

It would have happened a heck of a lot earlier (as early as 2008/09) had Thomas Enterprises not had their financial issues which slowed down and then eventually killed the agreement they had with REI at The Rim.

This can't be true....REI would never open a store in San Antonio. This must be a joke. I won't believe it until I see the store. And if it's true, I give them one month to close.
