Someone is claiming in the comments section that Edison students also made racist comments toward the Alamo Heights students. I wasn't there, obviously; but it's just another example of how people are unaware of the ethnic tensions in this area. Kids learn these things from home or from their peers who learn these things from home. That is why, when I have children, I will only put them in ethnically diverse schools.

I read that Edison was chanting "Alamo Whites...Alamo Whites." The article does not mention this. However, each school was wrong, and thank goodness the coach stopped the chanting.

It was a stupid thing to do, but it was stopped almost immediately by the AH staff. I think it is being blown out of proportion due to the ridiculous level of political correctness present today. If you want to see disgusting, go to the KENS5 Facebook page and read the comments about the story. I think it is pretty comical that people are railing against what they are calling "ethnic taunting" of students chanting "USA" by using overt racial slurs targeting the Alamo Heights crowd. The whole thing is pretty boneheaded.

As my grandma used to say, two wrongs don't make a right. Hope the parents of the kids involved use the opportunity to teach kindness and manners.

Every student involved was most likely emulating their parents...

...but without the maturity to keep their biases in check and thus vocalizing them. With the competitive nature of sports which could activate the fight or flight system and the economic disparity between the two schools in question it is no surprise this happened. Hopefully they can all work it out internally because this type of negativity if harbored and not let off as steam is more harmful to the individual than to society as a whole.

Yes, I am. There are a few East Asian families in my apartment complex, which isn't all that common in San Antonio. Most of the tenants are Hispanic, but there are several white and black families. The area is also mixed income. The high school down the street has a higher percentage of Asians, whites, and blacks than the whole of San Antonio while still being half Hispanic.

I'm confused I guess. They got in trouble for chanting USA? What's next, not allowed to play the national anthem before the games?
