Has anyone been through the Salado Creek Greenway from Lady Bird Johnson to McAllister Park? Do you have to walk on the side of any access roads or cross the very busy Wetmore Rd or Starcrest?

The pedestrian or jogger couple caught in the middle of the very busy Starcrest traffic and crosswalks: san antonio map - Google Maps

I still need to try this trail but it appears the path goes under the bridge at Wetmore.

WE are BLESSED here in Del Webb with more than 11 miles of "Greenbelt walking area"....which is one of the reasons we LOVE this place!!! Have hosted Volksmarchs, Hash House Harrier events, and other walking/exercise events to both residents and the public to understand what we offer to those that meet the required age elgibility. STILL LOVE THIS PLACE BEYOND WORDS!!!!!!

Thanks for the picture. I wonder how it looks now. Starcrest west of Wetmore is a mess from construction. It's down to one lane going each way. I'll be moving right by Lady Bird Johnson and will explore the trail. I can't remember if the light is still there.

Edit: I found the answer. Salado Creek Greenway is closed at Starcrest. That sucks.

The San Antonio Greenways are one of the reasons why we moved back to San Antonio. I LOVE them! I can literally leave my house on my bike, ride through the neighborhood across the street, and get to a Leon Creek Greenway trail head in less than 10 min (it's just a mile away). From there, I can get on the trail and ride for about 10 miles round trip or more (I could actually do 20 round trip if I started at the very top of the trail near UTSA Blvd and I-10, and rode all the way down to Loop 410. Loop 410!!! That Greenway goes on forever!!) The ONLY thing I don't like about it so far is the part where it goes under Bandera... they just opened up the next extension last year. But when it rains that part of the trail gets very muddy. They should have made a little bridge there instead so you wouldn't have to ride through the mud.

I still need to check out the other Greenways as well. But San Antonio's system is awesome. We missed the Greenway trails when we lived in OK City for the last year (my bike pretty much sat in my garage the entire time. It was so happy when we moved back!)

I hope one day I can bike from NW SA to Lackland via the greenbelts. I used to bicycle to work when we were stationed in Belgium and it was a great experience, even in the middle of winter. It is excellent exercise and a great way to see the landscape!

Cheers! M2

Does anyone know if there is a plan to extend the Salado Creek Greenway from its current termination point at Huebner Rd further north to 1604 or Rogers Ranch?

The greenway is great. Husband and I did Leon Creek last weekend for the first time and now can't wait to ride our bikes all the time.

Here is a map of the greenways. you can see what is done and what is still planned.

Park patrol actually told me and my girl to stay out of the Bandera location due to huge increase in mugging from 7pm-8am. Not that we go during that time, but like to squeeze out a little sunset cycling once in a while.

This is why we can't have nice things.
