Just an FYI that your phone's 4G WiMax coverage will not be affected by the Airvana unit you receive as it only routes voice and 3G data over your internet connection. Of course, you probably have WiFi at home anyway.

Also, the unit will does not always properly hand off a phone call to a regular cell tower and vice versa, so you might want to finish a call before leaving home (or finish one before you arrive at home).

Other than that, it works pretty well and you should see an increased ability to use your Sprint plan.

Thanks for the info DC... Yes, we have WiFi... Actually, we don't get 4G out at our house anyway, which I knew when I bought the phone... I think the 4G stops before 1604 and we are apx 8 miles outside of 1604...

I am really only concerned with the voice portion... We got rid of our landline almost 2 months ago and all was fine until I upgraded to the Galaxy... Like I said beore, everything was even fine with it up until about a week ago, when my bars went from 4-5 down to 1-2... It has been dropping calls here at the house or it doesn't even ring, I just all of a sudden get a voicemail alert... I really need to make sure I get a good voice signal here at home as I am a stay at home mom and I need to make sure I get my calls if the schools call or when our teenager is ready to be picked up...

Thank you for letting me know about the "handing off a phone call to a regular cell tower" info... I did not know about that, so again, thank you...

*** UPDATE ***

Okay, we have had our Airave unit from Sprint for a couple of weeks now... At first I was pretty disappointed as we could not get it to make a connection, even after a call to Sprint Customer Service... We kept the unit plugged in and after a couple of days it just seemed to make the connection itself... The only thing that does not connect is the GPS, which is fine with us, as said before we only needed the unit for better reception...

You know the unit is connected because when you make a call or answer a call you get 3 short beeps in the beginning of the call to let you know you are talking on the Airave connection...

I can honestly say that my reception has gone up immensely... I went from being in roam at the house or having just 1-2 bars to consisitently having 4-5 bars... I no longer drop calls and I am getting all my incoming calls...

All in all, considering that the unit is free and there are no monthly charges to use it, I think the Airave is a great option...

mrstxcop (not my wife by the way) lol, do you mind giving me the general area where you live? Im not asking for an exact address. I live out off Talley Road and get crappy reception, dropped & missed calls and it's driving me crazy. Also do you mind explaining exactly what you said to the Sprint guys to get the airave and why is it for free? I was under the impression it had a monthly fee... Thank you.

Check your address on the sprint website that shows coverage:

Sprint-Coverage

If your home address is in a not so good coverage area (e.g. just "Fair"), regular Sprint customer service is usually pretty good about getting you one of these units for free and without a monthly charge. The only caveat is that if you should leave Sprint, they will want it back or else they will charge you for unit. I am in technically in a "best" area, but can barely get a signal inside our house and had no problem receiving a unit.

Texas Cop (not my husband, lol)...

I live outside 1604, apx 8 miles, towards Boerne... I have a Boerne address but live in Bexar county...

When my husband called to get a unit he told Sprint that my phone was getting really bad reception in the house and I was dropping calls and not getting calls and I was not able to conduct business for our daughters dance troupe...

The Sprint guy to my hubs that he was going to check out address, he came back on the line and just told hubs that they were sending out a unit free of charge to us and that there is no monthly charge or activation fee for usage...

He did tell us that if we ever discountinued our Sprint service we had to send the unit back or we would be charged $140 for it...

Give it a try, it has helped me phone a ton...

If you have a contract with a service provider and your phone doesn't work or you are dropping calls make sure you report it. Every time that this happens report it. If your phone is roaming a lot in the area that Sprint says they cover than you have proof that it doesn't work. I'd take your contact in and ask Sprint to let you out of it.

Hey fake hubby (heehee)... He called the big guys... But there is a special unit that handles the Airave... So when you call make sure to tell them upfront you need that number... If get stuck on hold let me know and I think I have the number in one of my saved Sprint chat conversations...

It must be a breach of contract to offer this bad of service. Can we all get out of our contracts?
