Can't comment about pool builders but we are in the process of buying a house with a pool and a short while back had Gary's pools come out and do the pre puchase pool inspection and they did a great job. They didn't originally build the pool but gave a thorough inspection report and we will be utilizing them in the future for their pool school and such. They were very professional and knowledgeable and helpful....pointed out lots of things with the pool and pool equipment we didn't pick up on and I've had pools all my life.

Our pool was built by Shavano Pools but I bought the house from the original owner with the pool already in place so I didn't have to go through that hassle. I'd say about 80% of the pools in our immediate community were built by Shavano back in the early 2000's but I've been told he marketed heavily here when the community was starting up. He had so many projects that he set up a "field office" and managed his crews from there. Supposedly there was some kind of discount based on the number of pools and the fact he could keep his crews all in one location for a few months. The pool is eleven years old now and other than typical repairs it hasn't been too bad to take care of...so far.

After talking with several of the aforementioned pool companies, my wife has tasked me as the General Contractor for ours. If anyone is interested, I will chronicle our "ADVENTURE"- the pitfalls, problems, successes and hopefully savings in doing so.

Would be awesome if we could talk about price. We are moving to the area this summer and will be putting in a pool once our 3 yr olds are proficient swimmers.

I built my own and saved a ton. It is a blast for 7-8 months out of the year. Do yourself a favor and find a good pool guy to keep it clean.

Do you have any reccomendations for a pool guy? I currently use Keith Zars own pool cleaning service and it is quite expensive.
