Centex Home And Mortgage, Home Insurance
We are thinking to buy a Centex home since they offer us a good incentive but we have to use Centex Mortgage, the home insurance is an option.
Is there anyone purchased Centex home before and use their Mortgage or home insurance, please share your opinions.
Thank you very much!

I bought my Centex house in 2002 and it's been pretty good to me. The original financing was with Centex, but they sold it and Chase ended up buying it. I ended up refinancing with Chase when the rates were down in the really good numbers later on. They're probably going to sell your mortgage no matter what, it's a common practice.
as far as the warranty, I didn't do it, but I maybe should have. Look over what it covers very good and you might want to show it to a lawyer. If it does a good job of covering things, especially the a/c, then go for it if the price is right. The a/c unit they put in mine was an upgrade, but it was still a POS and I ended up buying an extended warranty from Airtron after I had the inside coil replaced the first time.. So far the inside coil needs replacing yet again, it's fourth time, and the outside was replaced once. That would've cost well over $5000, so the $578 for the extended warranty was a sweet deal...

My daughter and her husband bought a Centex home in Westcreek last year. It was a spec house but they got a good deal as all they had to pay was about $300 closing costs (not a VA loan). Centex told them that 100% of their financed homes are sold and they sold theirs to Wells Fargo. Also, like rd2007, they had problems with the A/C unit inside and had the coil replaced. Airtron does the servicing, but their A/C is a Coleman (heck, my almost 9-year old Trane is still ticking).

Thank you for info.
The house we are going to buy is a brand new house, and they offer 2-year extended warranty, so should we ask for a inspector to look around the house?

You should hire an independent home inspector....not one that is recommended by Centex...to do a home inspection. Then do another before your warranty runs out.

I had a client buy a spec home in May and she also took the Centex insurance. They beat USAA by 300 on the annual premium. Also, always get a third party inspection, the couple of hundred dollars for the inspection is worth the piece of mind

I would get an inspecter to look at it for ya. We are renting a Centex right now thats about a year old and its a pretty good house but it does have some strange issues that a third party might point out to you.

Coleman is the same brand I have for the a/c unit and the repairmen know that it's a trash brand.. I was looking at a new system, but they're almost $10K, so I think I'm going to get the most out of the extended warranty and save up my pennies..
also, stay on top of them to fix things. For some reason they kept forgetting about things, but I made sure to remind them...

Thank you very much for all of you.
We decide to choose Centex Insurance Agence by now since it is a few hundreds lower than USAA. No doubt, USAA will be the best if you need a claim.
We will take your advice to have someone to inspect the house.
Thanks again!
