Texas has been in the oil business for a long time, and has a large population, unlike North Dakota.

Just curious because I have not been hearing much about a population boom in Texas.

I was down in Cotulla this past weekend and the boom is definately here! Last time I was down there was in December and it has exploded in these past months.
Wells are being drilled in record speed by Chesapeake (who contracts them out) and are being capped because of the infrastructure to move the oil isn't there yet. Truck traffic is insane and I saw 5 trucks removing oil from one well and each truck holds about two thousand barrells, this is why a massive pipeline is being built to run from San Antonio to Corpus Christi and throughout the Eagle ford Shale region.

Agreed, I was in Jourdanton/Pleasanton a few weeks back and you can definitely see the "boom!"

There's plenty of work to be had for those willing to do the labor. Anyone who needs a job should look into it!

Cheers! M2

Not so much. Son completed 4 yr tour with USMC, trained and now does coil tubing for Eagle Ford. Works HARD, LONG hours (21 days straight then 7 days paid leave) and make GREAT money. It takes hard work, he got his CDL and Haz Mat license, and you put up with a LOT, but he is making GREAT money working hard while he is a young buck! He said he is amazed the number of people that sign up, get out there, and decide they "just can't do it".

Kudos to your son, Paka! I hope he makes a lot of money AND saves it to start his own business, maybe a fleet of trucks?

He is working hard, stashing it away and doing well. How many 23 yr olds have a 2012 car that is paid in full and has stashed away more money than most folks in their 40's have on hand without a bill or care in the world. Again, HARD work and LONG hours (averages 100 hours work per week), but hey, he is up to it at this age/stage of his life. Not something you can do forever for sure!
Steelman, he is actually looking into the mechanic side of the house and looking at purchasing his own tools (about 40K worth) to work with a friend he has hooked up with down there doing GREAT things as a mechanic.

Even better as a mechanic...lots of trucks being pulled over by DPS and other police forces for equipment problems as well as general truck wear and tear due to heavy use. Best of luck to him!
