I have had Tinnitus for the last 3 weeks. I have noise induced hearing loss. Although the hearing is slowly improving (although unlikely to return to 100%), the tinnitus/ ringing in my ear is driving me insane. I've seriously talked to my wife about my future, and don't want to be a bad person/ husband.

The ear doc gave me steroids to help the hearing issue, but defers on the topic of tinnitus and basically said 'you'll learn to live with it' if it doesn't go away.

I was sad the first week, depressed the second, and the third has me as low as I've been. Can anyone recommend a good ear doctor to help me?

Thank you for your help!

Do not suffer from this, but certainly feel for you.

Try looking at this info (local) and see if it might help.

NewSound Hearing Aid Centers | About Tinnitus

Thoughts and prayers with you...understand from friends that have suffered from this it is not easy.

Also, have been told that a "white noise" machine at night helps with these kinds of issues...seems to "override" the constant noise to allow you some sleep.

Hope this helps! Paka

Default Comiserate,

I too have it, the ringing in the ears, and just ignore it. Told that there is nothing that can be done to remedy it- I just don't think about it or dwell on it and merely consider it a minor annoyance now and then when I even notice it.
Like right now.
It is all we can do.
There are far worse cursed things in this world and, I personally, consider myself to have been blessed in this life.

It does help some. I usually just have a fan on and it drowns it out unless it's really bad that day.

I didn't realize how bad it was until I was working shifts and trying to sleep during the day. My neighbor decided to mow his lawn, so I tried ear plugs. The ringing in my ears was worse than listening to the lawnmower!!

It's a frustrating thing...if you don't have it, be thankful and do everything you can to protect your hearing.

For me, it's probably a result of loud cars and loud music in my youth.

My husband suffers from it as well and has for years. Just today his doctor suggested he try some herbal remedy. I don't know the name of it but he was told by the doctor he could order it on line. It seems like I've seen stuff for it at various health food stores.

Let us know how it works. Pretty desperate myself after almost two years but I'm nervous to try something unknown. Dr recommendation would have been nice. Mine tested my hearing and did a MRI. When both were fine he just sent me off telling me to get my hearing checked each year. Obviously a man who has never had this awful sound on his ear

Get another opinion. That is not something imo a good Doctor would say. Do some research online also. My Daughter had that last year, it was horrible. It went away eventually. She eventually was treated for double otis media (double ear infections) Your equilibrium and everything is off, she couldn't even drive for a few days. I hope you find a good ear nose and throat specialist.

I went to NYC for Christmas in 2003. I had a horrible sinus infection and the air pressure change you experience when you fly totally destroyed my ears. Ever since then I have ringing that comes and goes. The only thing I have found that somewhat controls it is using the Neti Pot on a daily basis to keep my head flushed. Some say the Neti is dangerous, but I have used it for years and nothing has happened to me. I also found that when it comes on strong I can hum loudly and it seems to go away. And what kinda doctor tells you learn to live with it??? Definitely get a second opinion. I went to ENT's,allergists, and audiologists all located in the Medical Center. Good luck b/c it can be very frustrating.
