I did some research on that area a long time ago which I posted to the original Gone But Not Forgotten thread. I want to say if my memory serves me correctly that whole areas east of where Gunn Honda sits now was owned by the DeZavala family. The building within Gunn Honda was actually a stage coach stop that was the last one before the stop on 9 Mile Hill, where Wolfe's Inn was and the original Wurzbach mansion still sits today.
I've done a lot of research on the Wurzbach family, but never heard of an Arnold Wurzbach. I'll have to start looking...

There's been a lot of construction work going on around the two buildings that this thread was originally about, it appears that someone may be relocating them. I can only catch glimpses on my way home from work, but it seems as if the buildings are being cleared and prepared for moving. I guess the
City of SA Historical Preservation Office may have some info, I sent them an email to find out but if anyone has any additional sources I would be grateful if they could inquire as to what is going on as well...

Used to go to Dan's all the time as a kid, and again later when it became a hangout for some of us "old school" riders....pulled up there on a GL1500 one day, and some squid on a Sporty spouted off about "rice burner". One of the other old-schoolers beat me to him, and quietly explained to him that he'd best be leaving before a "rice-burner" rider taught him some old-fashioned manners.....<evil grin>

I drove by there today to see if the VN Pho Noodle place is any closer to opening than it was a few weeks ago (it doesn't appear to be!
) and I had a pair of binoculars so I could read the TABC license application sign on the building where the restaurant is going. The name is the "Two Step Restaurant and Cantina" and I could find no info on it via the 'Net.
They're doing a lot of renovation and construction around the two old buildings, it will be quite interesting to see how it turns out!

See folks, that's how you break up the monotonous restaurant chains around here. Find old building and convert them. Or, better yet, simply don't knock down trees. If there are large oak trees, use them to hide other businesses.

I just passed by Braun and 1604 again today, and circled the building, and still no signs, looks like it's still several weeks away from being complete. I did look up some of the permits online, and noticed one referenced a 'smoker' it will have installed in the building. I plan to be a customer in the first few days of whatever it is, simply to applaude what looks like an excellent re-use of one of the areas historic buildings.
