Where are some good places to launch model rockets in town I'm not talking about those model rockets that penetrate the stratosphere, just some base models that fly up 500 or 1,000 feet. I'd like to find a place where it's legal and safe to launch & does not interfere with airline traffic or trees.

Thanks in advance!

I used to go around the corner of 151 and Loop 410, but now all those fields are built up with retail nowadays. How about 151 inside the loop around Callahan? Haven't been around there lately, but seems to me there is a lot of open and relatively flat space out there.

151 and Potranco where the Albertsons was. People are always there flying RC airplanes so I imagine you could launch rockets there as well.

I agree, but I believe that area is now owned by the City of San Antonio/ SAWS, so I would be careful. Maybe a nice friendly call to the Fire Station or the Police Station, to ask them, could be nice.

Plus, depending where you live, there might be some open area park that might be nice to use.

Since SAWS has taken control of this property I've not seen one person out there flying rc airplanes (there use to be quite a few early on). They have also posted new "No Trespassing" signs around the perimeter.
I think they're trying to tell us something.

Does one need to get permission from the Fire Department to launch model rockets on school property?
