Unfortunately, you are correct. Traditionally, SA has been a blue-collar town and it still is but changing slowly.

We need to keep our educated or newly educated here in SA...Attract more higher paying jobs. Offering the right incentives to new corporations/businesses to locate. I don't know if this is true but I heard that Austin gives away incentives to attract new company relocations. They do have a better educated population workforce but SA should have no excuse. Doing a better job of keeping our college graduates here after graduation should be key. Good higher paying jobs will go hand in hand with a educated workforce.

I agree with you but this has always been a catch 22 situation. Companies with high-paying positions are not here because there are not enough talents in SA. And talented folks don’t want to move to SA because companies with high-paying positions are not here. Of course there are exceptions but compared to Austin, Dallas, and Houston, there are more high-paying positions in those cities.

I am wondering about the "talented" folks that are still here in SA and continue to post nothing but negativity about SA on this site and how awful it must be living here compared to other cities.

San Antonio isn't my favorite city for sure and I see a lot of things that could be improved. Austin is the only city that I really would consider moving to inside of Texas but I don't think Austin is better than SA. Dallas and Houston pretty much suck compared to San Antonio.

The three cities you listed may have the higher paying jobs but they are certainly more expensive cities to run and maintain. I discussed this in another thread, but none of the three even managed to secure AAA bond rating this year which SA has managed to do since 2008. Please carry on about the higher paying jobs as if that is the only thing that makes another place better.

This is a good chart and about right:
food ( also restaurant food) and transportation is more expensive in San Antonio than in Houston ( believe or not, food in HEB is better and cheaper there!). Housing, utilities and healthcare is more expensive in Houston - cant say much about utility and health, but I would say that yes, housing is more expensive, but those houses are prettier, bigger and in better condition than in San Antonio ( median, of course)
Cost of Living Comparison: compare San Antonio, Texas to Houston, Texas
this is different but also fair:
Cost of Living Comparison Between Houston, TX, United States And San Antonio, TX, United States

Glad you are seeing this. Please go back and re-read the post about what I observed and stated regarding companies and talents in SA before you make any unnecessary remarks.

Me too. What set us apart though is you are just focused on the negatives.

The per capita income for SA is about the same as Austin. Dallas and Houston are a bit higher. Median family income Austin is first followed by San Antonio then Dallas and Houston. This was a few years ago so not sure what the stats are now but I would think S.A. has improved. You also have to remember that there are many different measurements as far as income, S.A. will not always rank favorably.

Per capita income is not the same as in Austin. Austin has a smaller populatilon and a larger economy. It would be mathematically impossible. I think it would be unfair to cast San Antonio off as a "low wage" city in a negative light, but there is no getting around the fact that the average income in much lower than its peers.
