Default Gone But Not Forgotten in San Antonio! - PHOTOS

I'd like to start this post with the hopes that many of the locations mentioned in the: Gone, but not... thread share some photos of many locations mentioned in addition to just talking about them.

I am including a few that may be discussed.

One is of the old Don Strange Party House marquis at 1550 Bandera Road. It is hidden behind a DriveTime car lot and is a memory of some bygone time of great Art Deco signs that dotted the S.A. landscape.

The other is a very localized business that thrived in the 1970's. This store was called Armand's and sits in a sad state at the corner if Woodlawn and Hillcrest.

If anyone recalls the history or memories of these sites please feel free to share along with any other old time photos that differentiate this thread from its sister thread.

Great idea - hopefully this thread will take off like the original. As a relative newcomeer to SA (about 8 years), it would be cool to see how things looked 'back in the day'.

Thanks SMUBOY. Windsor and Ingram were Barshop prototypes for late 70's/ early 80's shopping malls. I remember Ingram more because I lived closer to it. I was there for the grand opening in 79. You could take the #86 bus to the mall from the Woodlawn/ 36th street area. It was incredible to see compared to the Wonderland mall that I was used to hanging out at. From day one there were teens hanging around Ingram Mall, especially around the theater entrance near Dillards. I was one of them and spent many tokens at he game room near the entrance and across from the theater. There was also the best NY style pizza at Lucas. Thin, just the right amount of crispness, cheese and olive oil.

Here are some new photos taken recently. Most are from my old stomping grounds in the St. Mary's University area.

This La Fiesta used to be a Handy Andy in the 70's at Woodlawn and Bandera

This Family Thrift Center used to be an HEB in the 70's at Varsity Village at Woodlawn and Bandera

Great pics, Maxus40! Also, wasn't there a Luby's where the Soup R Salad is by the old theatre?
