I work for the NISD however don't really know all that much about the science academy. I will say, however, that staff from there go to each middle school and give presentations about the school and I have been impressed each time I've seen it. Students there also sit in class with John Jay students. The school is not a magnet school like Health Careers HS is. The academy is on the same campus as John Jay HS so the students intermingle with each other. The student will be allowed to participate in sports at Jay HS. If your student is trying to go to MIT or Yale or Harvard for science type degrees, this is the school for them. If I remember correctly, something like 90% of all science academy students get a full ride to college.

It is one of 5 magnet schools in Northside. Everything else you mentioned is spot on.
