I guess this is a totally random post. Then again, what's C-D for if not for totally random posts?!

I've always wanted to collect the Presidential dollar coins, but I've gotten only a few out of vending machines or the Metrocard machines in NYC. I stopped by my bank branch recently (BoA) and they only had the Susan B. Anthony coins from 1979. LAME!

Anyone know where I can find the Presidential Dollar coin in San Antonio?

Try as many banks or credit unions as you can, the fed no longer ships them out to the banks. Good luck in your search.

I got a roll at a Frost branch two weeks ago. I was surprised because the previous two visits they didn't have any. If you find them at a bank, they will probably be recirculated coins as the new issues are now for collectors only. Google dollar coins, and you will see where they were piling up at Fed Banks, so the gov't decided to reduce production. Dollar coins won't ever take off unless they eliminate dollar bills.

You can order them directly from the government, I think they will even ship them free to you.

Here is the website:

There are over 1 billion dollars of presidential coins in storage. These presidential coins bear the likenesses of presidents from Washington to Grant. I want. NPR made a blurb today about this story which was tipped off by one of their listeners.

I personally like the dollars coins and try to get them as often as I can. I will usually ask for some at the bank on the rare occasions that I actually have to get off and go inside.
