It's been a long time since I've been on these forums, but I knew I could come here for reliable information!

I am looking for somewhere to have a 40th b'day party in the Fall. I really don't want to have it at my house! I'm thinking 40 - 50 people. I'd like it fully catered - buffet would be better. A private room off a restaurant maybe? It's for my husband. He loves Mexican food. Burgers or BBQ would be ok as well.

I'd also like to stay on the North side - that's where most of our friends live. I don't want to have everyone driving too far, or having to pay for parking downtown.

Anyone have experience with this? I'm also not sure how to work it. Pay for the food, but everyone pays for their own drinks? I wonder if a party planner would be a good idea.

Send your ideas in my direction!

Try Panchitos on West ave.; I went to a surprise birthday party there. The food was buffet style; beer was free ( 2 different type of keg beers) and mix drinks were paid individually.

The green house that is next to "the cove" run by the cove.. allows inside and outdoor space and with delicious food!! Has a sign "host your party here"

call the cove and ask about it.

I don't really have any northside suggestions for you, but on the subject of drinks. In general, I wouldn't host a cash bar for a birthday party. it's different for a fundraiser or non-personal event, but for a birthday, no.

One thing that generally works in a restaurant or other places where a full bar is already present, is to serve beer/wine/margaritas (or sangrias or something that can be made in bulk). But should anyone require liquor, they can still buy it from the restaurant's bar.

One caveat is that if it's the norm in your social circle to have cash bars at events, then go for it. I'm guessing it's not since you're asking.

Aldaco's Stone Oak has a nice room and good event menu...not sure how they would work the alcohol...maybe carafes of sangria?

We haven't done this in our social circle! Most parties are either girls only, boys only (so that someone is home with the kids!) or just a party at a house. I'd like to host something bigger and include several of our "circles" as well as work, so I want it at a venue instead of our home.

Thanks for the ideas so far! I'll check into them. I do think they can pay for their own booze!
