Default Former Spur Dwayne Schintzius Passes Away

Spurs Nation » Former Spur Dwayne Schintzius dead at 43

OK, he was only a Spur for 42 games, but he was the team's #1 draft pick in 1990.

However, I recall him more from his time on the University of Florida basketball team; as I was a student there at the time.

On the court, he was an excellent player leading the Gators in scoring, rebounding, and free-throw percentage. He also led UF to the NCAA basketball tournament all three years he played there. He helped the team win their first SEC regular season championship.

He remains the only player in SEC history to amass more than 1,000 points, 800 rebounds, 250 assists and 250 blocks!

Off court, he had a turbulent reputation which included incidents with opposing players, fans and mascots, as well as other students on campus. I remember hearing rumors of him never going to class and actually spitting on people, but I never witnessed the latter. I do recall passing him in the hall one day between classes, man the dude was tall (at 7' 2" he was a full foot taller than me!).

And of course, there was his mullet (known as "the lobster" )!

It's sad to hear he passed away, especially at such an early age. May he rest in peace.

Cheers! M2

And no one on here posted anything about it. I just heard about it this evening, so I thought I would start a thread on it. Moderator cut: Off-Topic

Too bad he passed away. I remember thinking about whatever happened to him a couple of weeks before he died. Wonder if any one remembers "Zarko Paspalj".

RIP Dwayne
