My wife and I believe our newborn son needs a frenotomy. Anyone have any recommendations or know of a Dr. who regularly does these? Should we go with an ENT or a Pediatric Dentist?

Incase you're wondering what a frenotomy is:

I'm no expert, but I don't see that a dentist would have any involvement at all.

Yah-- but why would an "Ear Nose Throat" have involvement? (I know that they do, obviously).

Need a tongue-ologist or mouth-ologist.

Just a hunch, but try Diane McMains. She's a very experienced pedi and super breast feeding friendly, so I imagine she does them or at least knows who does. Good Luck!

This articles refers you to an ENT:
Low Milk Supply -- Tongue Tie
Low Milk Supply -- Frenotomy

Perhaps La Leche League or a lactation consultant could help? Or your baby's pediatrician?

Twenty plus years ago, when our son needed this procedure, we used a Pediatric ENT. It was done in the office as an outpatient. I'm sorry but I can't remember the doctor's name. Your Pediatrician should be able to recommend a good ENT.

All my best to your little guy.

Congrats on our new baby!

Your pediatrician should be able to guide you to a good ENT Doc.

Dana Hodge King, she's a dentist and FANTASTIC!! She was highly recommended to us for the same procedure, she did a great job. Her and her staff are phenomenal.

Dana Hodge King

Had we gone through an ENT or pediatrician they would have done it in the hospital under anesthesia. We didn't want that experience with our newborn.

Good luck!

If you were my patient, I'd refer you to an oral surgeon. Just my professional opinion.

Are either you or your wife doctors? If not, you shouldn't be looking for anyone other than a pediatrician (which you should already have). If they make the determination that this procedure is needed, then they will refer you to the correct physician.
