Default Best/safest place for short term military family?

We will be relocating for the summer while my husband is at Lackland with toddler and baby. We need inexpensive, clean, safe and easy commute to the AFB. I've read that the NW is good, and possibly southtown? Can people recommend apts/areas w. short term availability or the like??? we'll be there probably mid-june thru sept. Thanks!

How long will you be here??? It might be worth looking at onbase housing since it is readily available, and VERY easy for someone working at LAFB. Otherwise, I would personally recommend anything ABOVE the Potranco/1604 area for rent.

Welcome to the neighborhood!

Agreed, if you're only going to be here TDY; then the TLFs are your best bet. They're close to Wilford Hall (what's left of it) and all the base amenities are close by.

We rented a furnished apartment over in the Medical Center area when we PCS'd here the first time from Germany. It was extremely expensive and not worth the money in my opinion.

Welcome to Texas, be prepared for the heat!

Cheers! M2

We just came out of 6 weeks in TLF at Lackland after PCSing from overseas and while cheap $41.50 a night be aware that they are old, small and only 1 bedroom. For our family of 5 we would never do it again. With 2 little ones this may be doable? If your thinking of doing this I would contact them immediately because your dates begin in primo PCS season.
