Default Megabus Comes to San Antonio

I saw one of the big double-decker buses downtown yesterday, which surprised me, so I looked up online and... lo and behold, Megabus now has routes between SA, Austin, Dallas and Houston!

If you haven't heard of them, they're an intercity bus line. Nice buses, free wi-fi, unbeatable rates. High speed rail it ain't, but now Texas finally, FINALLY, has a decent ground alternative to the coma-inducing drives between its major cities.

Oh, and as a gimmick, they're offering one dollar rates if you book this week. Not too shabby.

This is great. My husband has to be in Austin a few times a month for work, and we've been hoping to find some kind of reasonable mass (more mass than him in a car anyway) transit option. I'll get back with a review as soon as we use it.

So they have all the $1 promotions right now, but how much would it regularly be to travel in state?

Round Trip 2 people San Antonio to New Orleans = $8. Talk about your Super Savers. Although at those prices I have to wonder who you would be traveling with.

Artist's conception of the new bus.

No wonder the fare is so cheap....they make you help scoot it along.

It looks like $30-$40 per person. Should be a much quciker trip then with Greyhound(as they have to stop in every podunk town) It looks like Megabus only stops in the major citys.

Booking is online only, so customers at least need a credit card and access to the internet. That tends to weed out the... uh... urban nomads, if you will.
