This is my first post and I hope I am doing this correctly. If, not I aplogize in advance.

I'll be flying into San Antonio in a few weeks and driving a rental car to Canyon Lake. I am terrified after recent trips to Austin, Houston, and Dallas of Texas overpasses that seem to be miles above ground level.

According to mapquest, I'll be on US 281 N to TX 46. Will I encounter any high overpasses on this route? I normally fly into Austin and am confortable with that route, but the airfare is much higher than the fare to San Antonio.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Lori

No....you will be fine ...... 281 is a highway with no overpasses and 46 is a breeze. I drive it all the time as I have 2 children at Smithson Valley HS...you will drive right by it:-) Have a great trip!!!!

You will be fine! No "high in the sky" overpasses on this route. Have a great trip. This is a fabulous time of year in Texas.

Thank you! I know that I will have to get over this fear when we actually move back to the area, but until then I'm just going to try to avoid them.

I know what you mean....there is one overpass almost into Austin....going the back from 290 transitioning to Hwy 1....It is so high that it is all I can do to not close my eyes!!!! Everytime I feel as if I am dangling over the city!!!

Good Luck:-)

I know the one you mean. I drove it one time and then had to pull over to side of the road and give myself CPR! I've managed to avoid them all since then because I know alternate routes. I haven't driven in San Antonio in 40 years and I'm pretty sure it has changed a little since then.

Yes, San Antonio has pretty much been under continual road construction for those 40 years. None of the projects are complete, but everything looks a LOT different.

If you fear high overpasses, then do not go near the I10, Loop 410 interchanges on the Northwest side. They're high, narrow, and usually someone is tailgating you.

Also avoid the 281/35 interchange right now. They are doing work on it right now and the lanes are extra thin!
