What's a puffy taco?....Heaven.
The mere mention of puffy tacos makes my mouth water. Yum!
Anyone got the recipe to make the tortillas puff-up like that?

Is it just me, or does anyone else think that Henry's Puffy Tacos was better at the old Bandera/St Cloud location (the old Luby's area)....I sure do.

Cristan's Tacos on San Pedro used to make the best puffy tacos back in the 70s.

I've never had one that was edible. Greasy, soggy messes. But I've only ordered them a couple of times. I don't think they are my cup of tea.

Wellllll, maybe I have a misconception of what some of you are describing, because.....
in So Calif, where I did most of my alleged growing up.... if you went to any authentic Mexican restaurant and ordered a taco, the tortilla was deep fried to order, and they always 'puffed up'.... (AND they were always 'handmade' tortillas, never from a plastic bag package).... they folded them at some point during the deep fry, and the puffiness was random and merely a result of 'pockets' in the homemade tortrilla.... sometimes you'd get a little dribble of grease from the pocket in fact....
(lard was used if the place was REALLY authentic.....)
Is this what you guys are referring to as 'puffy' tacos???
(At home, I always deep fried fresh tortillas for the tacos... mmmmm yummmmm!!!) and yes, in Lard!!!

OK so I don't know what a puffy taco is....yet. I do know what a pastrami on rye is though
I guess it's something you have to experience at least once. Thanx for the information everyone!

I agree. I went the other day and ordered a Lemonade , the waitress came back with a regular sized cup w/their lemonade. For those of you that don’t know, their lemonade is homemade and awesome but you have to buy a cup every re-fill (which used to be worth it) because they had a special cup. (larger than the regular tea cups) Also, it’s not the same employees. I got used to the wait staff at the other location. Food doesn’t taste the same either. Can’t put my finger on it.

The Puffy Taco "Throwdown with Bobby Flay" will replay again on Food TV October 11th. He challenged Diana Barrios from the La Hacienda restaurants here in SA.
Here are the links to Bobby Flay's recipe for his filling and the taco shell recipe courtesy of Diana Barrios. (But on the show she says they make their own masa instead of the maseca from the store so her's are better!)
