I wouldn't say it's to bad. I go to Hondo Highschool and I take my little sister and her friends every year. You get a list of questions to help you out of it, and if you go at night it's a good idea to take a flash light. There is a hay ride and a lot of activities outside of the maze. Only problem is the food and water's expensive.

We went on the last weekend they were open this past year. It was fun but one of those "do it once" type things. It's more geared towards younger kids and it ain't cheap; but it's still something a family should do at least once...

Cheers! M2

About what time of year was that? Late October? Early November?

I'm curious, but I'm mostly asking for the benefit of the folks who will ask this in future years.

They were open from September 27 to November 30 during 2008.

They will be open from September 26 to November 29 during 2009.

Everything you could want to know about the place can be found on their web site:

I've been to love creek and Hondo. For a toddler I'd recommend Love Creek. For older children Hondo. The corn maze is really really big and little kids get bored, however older kids would love it. I think it took us an hour to get through. They also had a big bouncy thing for kids to jump on. I'm sure they had other things to do but we didn't stay too long.

Love creek has a mini kids maze which my toddler really enjoyed, the maze is made from stacks of hay, about 2 feet high so you can just set your toddler lose and watch them run through it. They also have a lot of activities like pumpkin painting, hay rides, and a petting zoo.

I went over thanksgiving with some other young couples for an outing...we had like 4 couples all late 20's. We went to eat, drove out there and had a blast. Really its a lot of fun, go with a group, take flashlights and have fun. Not sure if it is still open or not.

My family and I have been to both Love Creek and Hondo. It seemed like LC had more activities that were free once you paid admission. The only thing we didn't like were the bees. Once we sat down with our food, they were all over us.

Hondo's big jumpy thing was a lot of fun for my kids. We did the tractor train ride (hard on the hiney!) and the slide which were a big hit. The maze, like pp have said, was a little too much for my kids. Also, they were running out of food when we went so there wasn't much to chose from.

By the way, in case anyone else is not familiar with Love Creek (besides myself); here is a web site with some pics...

Scroll to the bottom of that page to see what the maze looks like!

And, the Hondo maze isn't made out of corn! This from their FAQs pages:

Quote:
We plant our maze in hay grazer – the stuff hay bales are made out of. Corn requires twice as much water as hay grazer and little pesky bugs love to eat on corn stalks, destroying their growth potential. The hay grazer we plant is more drought tolerant and bug resistant allowing us to use sustainable agricultural practices on our maze crop, which is safer for the environment and the public.
Click here to see what the Hondo Maze looks like.

Cheers! M2
