So as some of y'all esteemed individuals know, I work the night shift and live in the Stone Oak area. I usually take 281 home, but every once in a while, my curiosity is piqued as to whether or not there are any cute girls jogging & I decide to exit Sonterra and drive on Stone Oak Parkway home. Today was the first such morning in a long while.

So off I go at a lazy 37-mph clip on Sonterra and am meandering through the curves, enjoying the fact that I'm off work & shall soon hit the hay. Well, the curves go by and then.....bam. Some random girl, either late teens or very early 20's is just standing there. IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. She's just standing there, no cars around, nothing.

Normally, I would have stopped to help or see if I could help, but this one was different....she was doing something with her hands that indicated that she was panhandling or something. If someone needs serious help and is in a panic, they'd be waving their arms for help and shouting, right? Well, this girl was completely silent with a dead look in her eyes & just shaking her hand up & down. It gave me the heebie-jeebies....I felt that something was off, so I decided to safely pass her by. Not at 40 mph, obviously!

Anyways, I felt slightly guilty, but then I saw a white Mercury Grand Marquis behind me doing the same exact thing. Slowing down for her, obviously looking at her, gauging the situation and then driving the heck out of there! It was weird! Borderline creepy.

What would you guys have done? I think it really didn't help that I was exhausted after a night of work and that the last time I encountered someone in the middle of the road was some drunk Russian woman with no teeth in the middle of an 8-lane highway in Almaty, Kazakhstan 3 weeks ago. Guess I'm somewhat averse to people wandering in the middle of a road now.

So what would you have done in this situation?

I would pick up the phone and call 207-7273... the SAPD non-emergency number, to report a suspicious person in the roadway.

You didn't get her number ha? Was she injured or anything? I experienced something like this, but in a different circumstance. It was on a country road in the middle of the night outside of San Marcos. Going to Canyon Lake actually. We pulled up on an old lady in a nightgown with bright white hair stumbling along the side of the road. We kept driving on a lil ways then decided to turn right around to see if she needed help or was hurt. When we headed back she was nowhere to be found. Definitely was more than borderline creepy.

pretty common to have people walk in the middle of the road late at night.
