Question Looking to Escape to Boerne, TX from North Carolina!

Hi All,

I am a Southern California native who has lived in the Triad Area of North Carolina for the past three years. My husband is a native of Greensboro, and I gave it "the old college try" but this is just NOT the place for me. So when my best friend told me that her husband may be getting transferred to San Antonio, TX from San Diego, CA I started thinking that I would arrange to relocate my family, too. I am convinced that Texas (which I already know and love anyway, having frequently visited it) can be a happy medium between the small (but adequate) town feel of Long Beach, CA for me and the greenness of Greensboro for my husband. Can anyone verify this?

I am looking to work in an Elementary school as a third or fourth grade teacher--the caveat is that I want to work in the type of school where educational achievement is expected of everyone; not simply the privileged kids or the smart kids like it is here in this area of North Carolina. I want to feel comfortable sending our daughter (now age three and an only child) to an awesome school. Are there any teachers out there who can give me any input as to whether the Boerne ISD or (surrounding districts) is open to transplanted teachers? I am a beginning teacher, but at 42 years old, I am not new to life. lol I have registered with the TEA and am waiting to hear what tests Texas will require me to take after considering my (as yet unused) California Credential and North Carolina License. Has anyone had any recent experience with "transferring" an out of teacher's credential to Texas?

My husband is a tile mason; what is the construction situation in the area? Are there many builders? Will there be job opportunities for him?

Thanks in advance for any information you can provide!

All the best,
inchanting

Boerne is generally green with about 34 incehs of rain a year.

Boerne ISD is one of the best school districts in the San Antonio region.
