Hello... I am moving to SA to work in fort sam houston as researcher. I'm looking for pretty safer place as a woman to live near For Sam Houston, maybe within 10 min by car. Please recommend some areas I'm able to start to find an apartment in. Thanks in advance.

There's no place I could recommend in the area surrounding Ft.Sam. However, it's not a bad drive from the Sunset Ridge apartment complex. It's been about 7 years since I lived there, but we'd frequently take late (and I mean LATE) night walks all around the surrounding areas and never experienced any problems. There's a small strip center next to it that has some interesting and eclectic shops/restaurants. It fits roughly within your 10 minute driving requirements. You can exit out the neighborhood behind it and cross Austin Highway to get on Rittiman at its head, then take that straight down to Harry Wurzbach. Until you hit Harry Wurzbach, it's all neighborhood and sedate driving.

Give it a look, I think you'd enjoy it. It's not your typical apartment complex. Each building is 2-stories, 8 apartments and is constructed of limestone block with wooden floors. It's a higher elevation, so some of the apartments have a nice view of Alamo Heights.

I lived at Newport Apartments from September 2008 to April 2010. Live in a one and two bedroom. It was okay I guess, but I was ever vigilant, and locked my door at all times, and never really went out on my balcony either.

I live 5 minutes away from Fort Sam and feel perfectly safe, as do my neighbors - many of whom are professionals, some working at Fort Sam, some single women.
