Spanish Speaking??
Looks like we may be relocating to Texas... most probably Dallas, but there is a possibility if the $$ are right, San Antonio here we come!
A friend of mine spent 4 years in SA and she told me that I won't be able to get a job in SA unless I speak Spanish too! Which of course, I don't speak. Is this true? Are all employers in SA only hiring bi-lingual folks? I surfed on Monster & didn't see any refereneces from corporations etc., that they only wanted bilingual.
Can someone fill me in one this, and now I'm wondering about Dallas, too!!

Job Language Requirements
Hello Dorothy1960,
Sometimes you see in the want ads, Spanish (though the term bilingual is usually used) a plus, but not a requirement. Most of these are in the service sector, with call centers being the biggest one. There are plenty of jobs for the bilingual impaired in San Antonio.

Whoever told you that was either pranking you, straight up lying for no reason, or is over dramatic.
You can get any job you want in San Antonio and not know spanish. The only time you need to know spanish for a job is if said job requires you to speak it. Otherwise there's no need for knowing spanish at a job.

Hi,
I really doubt that you must speak spanish. I have to do translations for my mother in law, because a lot of people she has to deal with are not bilingual. It suprises me as you would think some one in one of those offices would be able to translate. So don't worry.

English.
It\'s such a incorrect stereotype of San Antonio, so much so, I have a friend whi is black, she used to teach at a charter school but then in 2004 she moved to Duncanville which is in the DFW metroplex. Anyway, when she met her new neighbors, she told them where she was from (San Antonio) and they literally gasped and said \"You\'re from San Antonio and you speak english.\"
She was greatly insulted at their ignorance.

Not true. Lots of people who don't speak a word of Spanish have good jobs here.

It was a question I got a lot when I first moved here too...everyone wanted to know if I spoke Spanish, and if I needed to speak Spanish to teach here. It's a horrible stereotype, but there it is...along with everyone up north thinking we ride horses to work and wear cowboys hats all the time.

Spanglish.
I have no statistics and don't feel like looking for them, so I would have to venture a guess and say they are mostly English-speaking. There are pockets of town that may be more Spanish-speaking, but here on the northwest side most people speak English fluently.
